Bioinformatics analysis of all predicted protein sequences
allowed to obtain an idea of the glycosomal proteome of
trypanosomatids. Predictions based on the presence of glycosomal
import signals of type 1 and type 2 (PTS1 and PTS2) were
confirlmed (or not) by proteomic analysis of glycosomal
fractions. Some interesting observations are that in addition
to carbohydrate metabolism glycosomes are involved in fatty
acid oxidation, ether-lipid synthesis, pyrimidine synthesis,
protections against oxidant stress.
