LISBON (NIGHT TOUR)

Departure from the Congress Center towards Marquês do Pombal, Av. da Liberdade, Rossio, Terreiro do Passo, Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Discovery Monument), Belem Tower, Jerónimos Monastry, Lisbon Bridge, Alcantara, and Estufa Fria Restaurant.

TOURS DESCRIPTIONS


LISBON AND THE DISCOVERIES (Half Day Tour)

Departure from the Congress Center driving along the River Tagus to Belém borrough.

Stop by the Tower of Belém a beautiful 16th Century fortress who marks the spot where the caravels and ships sailed in the 15th Century. The next stop will be by the Monument to the Portuguese Sea-Discoveries. Visit to the Church of the Monastery of Jerónimos, one of the best examples of the Gothic-Manueline style. Visit the Coaches Museum which displays the best and largest world collection of royal carriages from the 16th to the 19th Centuries. Continuation of the tour towards the Castle of Saint George with a walking visit along its ramparts enjoying the beautiful panorama over Lisbon and the River Tagus estuary.


SINTRA AND CAPE-ROCA (Half Day Tour)

Departure from the Congress Center towards the small town of Sintra. Visit to the Gothic Palace with wings dating from the 14th Century, with rooms and halls of Mudejar and Gothic-Naturalistic architecture and beautiful ceramic tiles "azulejos" from those periods. The two huge conical kitchen chimneys are the Medieval "ex-libris" of the town of Sintra. Continuation of the tour driving along the Mountain of Sintra whose luxuriant vegetation deserved the name of "Glorious Eden" by the poet Lord Byron. Stop by the cliffs of Cape-Roca the Western-most point of continental Europe. Return to Lisbon driving through the towns of Cascais and Estoril.


ÓBIDOS, NAZARÉ AND BATALHA (Full Day with Lunch included)

Departure from the Congress Center towards Óbidos. Walking visit along the sinuous streets of this village within the ramparts of the Medieval castle.

The white-washed small houses with wrought-iron windows covered with bright coloured flowers, the display of the wares of the local artisans, makes of this lovely village one of the finest examples of the old Portuguese contryside. Lunch at Nazaré followed by a visit to this colourful fishermen village. Continuation to Batalha for a visit to the impressive Gothic Monastery of St.Mary of the Victory of Batalha. Return to Lisbon.


ÉVORA (Full Day with Lunch included)

Departure from the Congress Center towards Évora, capital city of the province of Alto-Alentejo classified by "UNESCO" as museum-town. Visit to the ruins of the Roman Temple of Diana, to the Gothic Catedral, to the Church of Saint Francis and Chapel of Bones. Walk along the old streets with geminated Gothic-Manueline doors and windows and "moucharabied" arab-styled verandahs. Lunch in Évora continuing to Arraiolos for a visit to a work-shop of the famous hand-made carpets. Return to Lisbon driving along the typicaly Portuguese cork-tree groves.
